Whilst ASB doesn’t occur exclusively in social housing, where it is housing related, registered providers play a key role in addressing the ASB being caused. It is important that officers working in a social housing setting, and the partners that work with them, understand the powers available under the tenancy agreement.

Specifically, learners will explore:

  • The common types of social housing tenancy
  • The responsibilities upon a tenant, who these cover, and how far they extend
  • Starter/introductory tenancies: what they are, the reasons for extended the probationary period and the appeal process when serving notice.
  • Consideration of the ASB discretionary ground for possession
  • Consideration of the absolute ground for possession
  • Exploring the alternative options to tenancy action and understanding which tool is most appropriate for each situation
