Managing neighbour disputes is one of the most difficult parts of an ASB officers role.

Dealing with neighbour disputes as ASB often results in mismanagement of resident expectations, cases being open for a long time, despondent officers and low satisfaction/high numbers of service complaints.

This course, aimed at all front-line officers (whether working in Housing, Policing or Local Authority), or managers/team leaders seeking to review their service approach in this area.

It seeks to shine a light on why dealing with neighbour disputes as ASB is akin to trying to force a square peg into a round hole, and why we should consider the issue through a different lens.

Aligned with the Spotlight on Noise report and recent case determinations, the course will also assist any attendees from social housing to embed recent findings and recommendations from the Housing Ombudsman Service. However, the principles covered are relevant for all organisations dealing with ASB.

Specifically, the course will cover:

  • What is a neighbour dispute and why it does not meet the definition of ASB
  • The challenges we encounter when categorising as ASB
  • How to triage a report safely and confidently
  • The types of responses and actions when dealing with neighbour disputes
  • How to manage persistency

Delivered by experienced trainer and practitioner, Katy Anderson, this on-line course will leave the learner feeling more confident in their ability to spot and manage neighbour disputes most effectively.
